On the Wings of the Wind database

In its current state, On the Wings of the Wind is nothing ground-breaking in the world of steampunk fantasy. A short introduction that should grant you knowledge needed to participate and govern further progress of the roleplay, however, are needed:
1) I see enough elves, dwarves, orcs, trolls and halflings in all forms of video-game/book/movie/roleplay fantasy to satisfy all my needs.. I don't especially want more Tolkien-esque fantasy so please keep stuff like that out. Also, vampires. Zombies. Dragons. Thanks.
2) The roleplay describes an airship expedition to the largely unknown parts of the world. The starting point is a rather Mediterranean location.
3) A character created should participate in the expedition somehow. If, by the time you read this, the expedition had already started, don't worry; it should be possible to tie you in somehow if you contact me or some other participating member per PM or on the site's chat.
A few points to consider when creating a character:
-What is his/her/its motivation for participating in the journey?
-How is his/her/its participation valuable? Technological knowledge? Geographical pseudo-knowledge (remember, large parts of the world are unexplored)? This expedition is potentially invaluable for "modern" science and because of this they won't just take anyone.
-Will any problems, e.g. of personal nature, occur because of his/her/its departure?

5) Cut down on hack&slay, please.

Race: Mechanical serpent.
Info: Orange in colour with lens-like scopes for eyes, six extremely rattly exhausts and two arms with anything from tools to rocket launchers, if Craig had any, at their ends.

Age: 22
Race: Human
Info: A slight nerd, even a dweeb, Craig spends much of his time building motor-based machines. He believes that there is nothing wrong with using the metal from the ship to build his machines. No one really uses the room anyway... :>
He looks more like a tramp than an engineer.

Age: 53
Race: Human
Appearance: Slender to the point of being scraggy, sharp face, former blond hair which is rather grey by now.
Since she spends a lot of time outside working on the airship and with similar tasks, she is perfectly in shape despite her relatively high age (Victorian times, right?).

Of noble descent, she has always been seen as eccentric by her house (and she sees her house as uptight), she spent much of her time with the newest technology and amassing enough wealth to finance her expedition. Rumours say that she poisoned her husband (whom she despised anyway) for his riches, and in this case rumours don't lie though she would never admit it.
Besides tech, she is obsessed with this expedition because it is the perfect opurtunity to escape the boring life as a noble and almost elderly widow.
Impatience, impulsiveness and recklessness are some of her main character traits.

Appearance: Has Blueish-gray skin, long noise, sharp, elongated fingers, long ears, small form and thin. Has numerous scars, possibly from him messing with alchemy. His entire family have been alchemists, though rarely engages in conversation with them. Knows Alchemy very well, having made most of the known potions, and believing the voyage may help him if they find new herbs. Likes Experimentation and Mayhem. He is intelligent, cunning and greedy. Sometimes mutters to himself. Likes dark places like corners, easily imtimidated. Also likes shiny objects.
